Knee injury set to rule Chrisantus Uche out of 2026/27 season
Super Eagles midfielder Chrisantus Uche had been unfortunately ruled out of the fast-approaching 2026/27 football season after sustaining a serious knee injury in a preseason game.
The energetic player was taken off in a stretcher some minutes after he was introduced into a preseason game this week between Getafe and Monaco following a nasty tackle which struck him on his knee.
Monaco defender Christian Mawissa received a straight red card for his studs-up tackle and after the game, Getafe released a statement on their official website providing an initial update on the Nigeria international’s condition.
“Following initial tests and clinical examination by the club’s medical staff, Christantus Uche was found to have a contusion on the kneecap of his right leg, caused by the blow suffered during the match against AS Monaco,” the club said.

“The footballer is awaiting further tests to assess the full extent of the injury. Clinical evolution will determine its availability.” The statement concluded.
However, subsequent examinations and an MRI scan revealed a much grimmer reality, confirming multiple tears to both the ligaments and the meniscus in his right knee.
The 23-year-old who had a torrid loan spell with Premier League club, Crystal Palace last season is now expected to undergo surgery, which would rule him out of action for the entire 2026/27 campaign.
