Kelechi Nwakali exits Barnsley by mutual consent

Forgotten Super Eagles player Kelechi Nwakali has parted way with English League One club, Barnsley FC by mutual consent.

The club which made this known in a statement issued on Friday disclosed that both player and club came to a conclusion to terminate his contract.

Barnsley also disclosed that the exit of the 28-year-old player who has had a tipsy turvy football career is subject to approval from the English Football League.

“We can confirm that Kelechi Nwakali has departed Oakwell by mutual consent, subject to EFL approval,” the club said in a statement on their official website.

“The Club wishes Kelechi all the best for the future.” The statement by Barnsley concluded.

The 28-year-old who joined Barnsley in 2024 after leaving Portuguese club G.D Chaves struggled for consistent game time and was effectively frozen out of the first team.

Nwakali, a former Arsenal youth prospect finished his stint at the Yorkshire club with 30 appearances, 1 goal, and 1 assist across all competitions.
