How Switzerland edged Colombia shootouts to set up Argentina quarter-finals
The Swiss national team led by Granit Xhaka overcame the Colombia national team via penalties in a cagey World Cup round of 16 game played at the BC Place in Vancouver.
The game which ended 0-0 after 120 minutes witnessed a tense defensive battle between both teams with few clear cut chances created in the match.
It was the Colombian national team that came closest to breaking the deadlock in extra time when striker Jhon Lucumí’s header struck the crossbar.
For large portions of the encounter, both teams lacked the composure to win the game as both teams put up defensive display throughout the game.
The game eventually went into penalties with Swiss goalkeeper Gregor Kobel becoming the hero of the night when he made a decisive save to help his team win the shootout by 4-3.

The Swiss national team will now take on a Lionel Messi inspired Argentina in the quarterfinals of the World Cup on Sunday 12, July at the Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
