How Super Falcons can qualify for 2026 WAFCON quarter-finals
The Super Falcons will take on Egypt on Wednesday in their last Group C match for a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The defending champions started the tournament on a losing note with a 3-2 defeat to Malawi before scrapping a 1-0 win over Zambia in their second game.
The Justine Madugu-led side are currently second on the log behind Malawi with three points, they are ahead of Zambia due to a superior head-to-head record over Zambia which is the tie-breaker despite Zambia having a goal difference of +5 compared to Nigeria’s 0.
Malawi have enjoyed a successful campaign in their first tournament, storming to the top of the log with six points.
If Zambia defeat Malawi and the Super Falcons beat Egypt, the three teams will be on six points apiece.

Matches between all three of them would come into consideration when determining who had the best head-to-head record.
Only if the teams are still tied after that will overall goal difference be considered.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals, while the four semi-finalists will qualify automatically for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Meanwhile, Super Falcons defender Ohale Osinachi has declared that the players will give their best to win against Egypt.
She said: ”The game against Egypt is even more important than the first and second game we’ve played.
“We already know what is at stake, we know the importance of the game and we will take it with all seriousness and do better than our last game,”

Team News: The Super Falcons are expected to be without defender Blessing Demehin, who was sent off against Zambia.
Jennifer Echegini is also expected to miss out because of back-to-back yellow cards against Malawi and Zambia.
