WAFU: We’ll learn from setback, Maikaba says after Burkina Faso loss
The coach of the Flying Eagles of Nigeria, Abdul Maikaba, has disclosed that his team will learn from their disappointing 2-0 loss in their last Group D game at the ongoing U-20 WAFU tournament taking place in Ivory Coast.
Maikaba, who was speaking ahead of his team’s semi-final game against the host nation, said that football is about learning, responding, and showing character in difficult moments.
The coach, in a message shared on his social media page, added his team will learn from the setback and focus squarely on the next game against the host nation.

“Football is about learning, responding, and showing character in difficult moments. We will learn from this setback, stay united, and shift our full focus to the semi-final against hosts Côte d’Ivoire,” Maikaba wrote on X.
The Flying Eagles missed the opportunity to go top of the group but have everything to play for against their next opponent with qualification for the final and the 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations at stake.
