Bursaspor president reveals what it’ll take for Iheanacho to leave

Kelechi Iheanacho

Enes Çelik, the president of Turkish second-tier club Bursaspor has revealed what it will take to prize Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho away from his team amid recent interest from Fenerbahce.

The president of the Green Crocodiles who was reacting to the impact of Iheanacho who has scored 16 goals and provided three assists in just 12 league appearances since his arrival at the club, said that it will only take an exceptional offer to sanction his sale.

He stated further that the club will ultimately set out to make decisions that are in its best interest but at that point, it would have to be a good offer far beyond what would normally be considered good.

“If a poll were conducted, I’m sure 99% of people would vote for him not to be sold. I understand that, but we cannot look at things purely from an emotional perspective. We also have to consider the situation rationally,” Celik told Gol TV.

“Iheanacho is a player who can score goals even when there seems to be no real goalscoring opportunity. I am the person who wants him to stay at the club more than anyone.

“However, there could be some truly extraordinary offers on the table. If that happens, we will consider them as a board. Ultimately, we set out to make decisions that are in the best interests of the club.

“At that point, it would have to be a good offer — in fact, an offer far beyond what would normally be considered good.

“He is not a player we would easily allow to leave. He also wants to bring a significant amount of money into the club. He is genuinely a good character.

“It wouldn’t be right to mention a specific figure, but I can assure you that if an offer comes in that satisfies everyone, it will be an amount that makes us say, ‘Yes, he can be sold for that.” He concluded.

Celik’s comments come after Turkish news outlet HT Spor revealed in a report that Fenerbahce are considering a January swoop for the former Manchester City and Leicester City striker to bolster their attacking line.

The Turkish first division club are desperate to close the gap between leaders Galatasaray on the league table and consider Iheanacho to be an interesting option as they seek to claw their way back into contention in the race for the Super Lig title.
