Iheanacho’s 11-game goal scoring streak taking Turkey by storm
Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho is sending tongues wagging in the Turkish Super Lig by extending his goal scoring run to 11 consecutive league matches after scoring Bursaspor’s second goal in a 2-0 over Pendikspor.
Iheanacho sent his teammates into wild celebrations when he put the ball at the back of the net in the 62nd minute of the game played on Monday night at the Ataturk Spor Kompleksi Matli Stadium.
With the goal scored by the former Celtic striker (who once plied his trade at Manchester City, Leicester City and Spanish club, Saville), Iheanacho set two record breaking achievements in Turkey as a professional football player.
The Nigeria international has now set a new record at Bursaspor as the first player to score in nine consecutive matches thus surpassing the eight-match goal scoring streak set during the 2014-15 season by Brazilian striker Fernandao.
Iheanacho also became the first player in the Turkish league to score in 10 consecutive league matches and counting, surpassing Metin Oktay, who scored in nine successive matches during the 1962-63 season, and former Turkey international Saffet Sancaklı, who achieved the same feat in the 1995-96 football campaign.

The goal scored by Iheanacho against Pendikspor brought his total tally this season to 15 goals in 11 league appearances for Bursaspor across all competitions this year season since he joined the Turkish second-tier club from Celtic FC in the summer.
The player who has now cemented his name in the record books of Bursaspor and Turkish football with his impressive display has also been forced to react to speculation surrounding his future in the game.
Speaking to newsmen after the game, he said; “I am not going to say anything about the future until we can to the future,” Iheanacho said via Spor Bursa.
“Right now, we are living in the moment, so we have to enjoy the moment now that we are living in it and make the most out of it and continue playing, winning, being at the top of the table, and scoring goals.”
Iheanacho will now be eagerly looking forward to extending his goal scoring streak which started right from his debut against Bodrum FK and includes a standout 2-goal, 1 assist performance in a 3-0 win over Muglaspor, when Bursaspor play Ankara Keciorengucu on Sunday October 25.
