Gusau confirms resignation as NFF President
Ibrahim Gusau, the president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed his resignation with immediate effect following calls for him and his board members to step down amid pressure over the recent national team’s failure to qualify for major competitions.
Gusau who made the announcement during a press conference held in Abuja on Thursday, said that he has also told members of his board to follow suit for the sake of the advancement of Nigerian football.
“I just want to tell you that I decided to resign my position as the NFF President. I informed my board members and advised them that anybody who wants to follow me to also resign, but as I am talking to you I cannot tell you who and who or how many board members that have resigned.
“The board is not communicating to me. I have not communicated to the administration. So, for me, I want to make this clear. And I am a disciplined person; I hope that we will continue to make our contribution across our experience.” He said.
The football technocrat also disclosed that he hopes to continue to give his contributions to the development of the round leather game in the country because of the experience and relationship he has in the continent of Africa.
“By the grace of God I hope I can continue to give my contributions because the experience and relationship we have within the African football, we will never allow it to go in vain. Whenever we need to give our contributions we will come here and give our contributions for the progress of the Nigerian people.” Gusau added.

The resignation of the NFF president was also confirmed in a post shared on the official X account (formerly Twitter) of the NFF.
The message on X reads thus in full, “NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, alongside his Executive Committee and the General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, have resigned from their positions.
Before exiting, Gusau highlighted a landmark $8.5 million Adidas kit sponsorship deal that the federation had sealed to replace Nike.
His decision to step down comes after intense pressure from soccer fans, stakeholders, and the federal government.
Gusaua resignation now paves the way for a restructuring of Nigerian football ahead of the forthcoming September 27, NFF elections set to be staged in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State.
