D’Tigress miss chance to win U-18 AfroBasket
Mali secured a narrow 77-68 win over Nigeria’s U18 D’Tigress at the FIBA U18 Women’s AfroBasket final on Sunday.
The thrilling final played at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Ivory Coast, saw the Malians dominating the opening quarter of the game with a 26-15 lead.
The Junior D’Tigress responded with a strong team display in the second quarter of the game by outscoring their opponents 15-13.

Both sides battled to a 13-13 scoreline in the third quarter of the game, with both teams scoring 25 points in the final period (fourth quarter), leaving Mali to hold on for a 77-68 win.
The win by Mali which is their third consecutive title means that the D’Tigress has now lost a second straight FIBA U18 Women’s AfroBasket final to Mali.
The loss to Mali also meant that Nigeria’s Junior D’Tigress missed the chance to win their maiden title but the team can take solace for securing one of Africa’s two tickets to represent the continent at the 2027 FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup in China.
