D’Tigress crash out of FIBA World Cup after heavy defeat to France

The female national basketball team of Nigeria nicknamed D’Tigress suffered a heavy defeat against France in their last Group game at the ongoing 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup taking place in Berlin, Germany.

D’Tigress tutored by coach Rena Wakama struggled to match the superiority of their opponents in the game losing 111–56 to France in their final Group B encounter.

The French team dominated early, leaving D’Tigress trailing significantly at halftime beating Nigeria 13-31 in the first quarter and 13-34 in the second quarter of the encounter.

D’Tigress also struggled in the third quarter of the game losing 15-26 to their opponents and also succumbed to a 15-20 loss in the four quarter to the France team.

The game eventually ended in a 111-56 final score blowout which ultimately quashed the hopes of the D’Tigress from qualifying for the next stage of the tournament.

France entered the matchup in excellent form with a 2–0 record, having convincingly defeated Hungary (99–53) and South Korea (95–69) to secure their safe passage out of Group B.

D’Tigress finished winless in Group B (0–3), having previously suffered losses to South Korea (99–81) and Hungary (71–67), which already eliminated them from knockout contention prior to the France fixture.
