Spanish coach Mikel Arteta has penned a new long-term contract with reigning English Premier League (EPL) champions Arsenal football club.

This was made known in a statement issued by Arsenal on Wednesday in which the North London club declared that the agreement with Arteta reflects a shared belief that last season’s success is the beginning of a special period in it’s history.

Arsenal noted in the statement that it is ready to build on last season’s success, competing for major trophies in a sustainable way and continuing to strengthen the deep bond between the club and its supporters all over the world.

“We are delighted to announce Mikel Arteta has signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal,” the club stated.

“The new agreement reflects our shared belief that the progress we’ve made and last season’s success is the beginning of a special period in our history.

“Mikel became our seventh title-winning manager last season as we were crowned champions for the 14th time. It was our fourth Premier League title and our first in 22 years.

“Together, we remain focused on building on that success, competing for major trophies in a sustainable way and continuing to strengthen the deep bond between the club and our supporters.”

Co-chairs Stan and Josh Kroenke said: “It has been an incredible journey so far and we are excited for what lies ahead in this special relationship. Last season was an incredible moment in Arsenal’s history, a moment in which we created memories that will last a lifetime. We’re determined to create many more in the years ahead.

“We share a special bond with Mikel. We are so proud of everything we have achieved since he returned to the club in 2019.

“He has a deep understanding of Arsenal’s values and carries them in his heart. He knows what this club means to everyone connected to it and is committed to building on everything we have achieved together.”

The new terms for 44-year-old coach include a substantial pay rise from his previous package, which consisted of a £10 million base salary plus £5 million in bonuses.

Arsenal has now secured the future of Arteta (who is expected to remain a key figure at the club and also to coordinate transfers & more) following last season’s Premier League title triumph.

While the precise length of the contract has not been officially confirmed, it is a long-term extension intended to keep Arteta at the Emirates Stadium until at least 2029 or 2030, pushing his stay beyond a full decade since his arrival in December 2019.
