Ajayi on target as Hull City stun Man Utd in Premier League
Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi was on target to lead newly-promoted Hull City to a memorable 2-0 win over Manchester United in a 2026-27 Premier League encounter on Saturday.
Semi Ajayi opened the scoring for Hull City in the 17th minute when he smashed the ball into the roof of the net after Lammens tipped Oli McBurnie’s effort.
Nobel Mendy added the second goal with a well-placed header in the 38th minute to give Hull City a 2-0 lead going into the break.
Carrick responded by bringing in Marcus Rashford for Patrick Dorgu in the second half but the Red Devils failed to break Hull City down in the second half.
Konstantinos Tzolakis made five impressive saved to hand Hull City the maximum points on their Premier League return.
It was the first time the Red Devils had lost to a newly-promoted side on the opening weekend of the Premier League.
Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes was disappointed with the team’s performance in the encounter.
He said: “Same mistakes as we did last season, every away game we give too much of the ball to them. In the first 20 minutes, the goalkeeper was the one with the most touches.

“We needed to press more, be more aggressive, and then again we need to work on set-plays and not concede these type of goals. Against these types of teams, they are waiting for that moment.
“We knew before the game set-pieces would be a big part of their game. They played all pre-season with a back four but had a five against us for some height, for these moments. The most frustrating thing is that we lost the game.”
Up next for Hull City is a clash against Stoke City on Tuesday in the EFL Cup while Manchester United will face Ipswich Town next Sunday.
