Abuja to host North Central Handball Division One League
The 2026 National/Zonal Division One Handball League for the North Central Zone has been scheduled to hold from September 23 to October 1 at the Indoor Sports Hall, Package ‘B’, of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
Teams from Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, Plateau, Niger, Kwara and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are expected to participate.
The competition, organised by the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) in collaboration with the office North Central Zonal Representative on the board of the Federation will serve as the zonal qualification tournament for the National Division One League.
The best two teams from the North Central Zone will advance to the final phase of the national competition.
According to the HFN President and North Central Zonal Representative, Mr. Jibril Ojih Saidu, (FNIQS) participating teams are expected to arrive in Abuja on September 23, while the competition will run from September 24 to 30.

Teams are expected to depart on October 1, 2026.
The organisers have advised all participating teams to make the necessary arrangements for their arrival and departure within the stipulated period.
Each team will be permitted a maximum delegation of 22 persons, comprising 18 players and four officials.
The North Central competition is one of the zonal Division One leagues expected to be organised across the country as part of the qualification process for the final phase of the 2026 National Division One League.
Following the completion of the zonal competitions, the best two teams from each zone will qualify for the final phase of the National Division One League, where the top two teams will earn promotion to the Handball Premier League.
