Victor Osimhen

Prolific Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has moved swiftly to clarify comments made by head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria, Eric Chelle about the player’s speculated move away from Turkish club, Galatasaray FC.

Recall that Chelle disclosed earlier that both Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen will miss the upcoming friendly games between Poland and Portugal due to various reasons.

Chelle who made the disclosure after Nigeria defeated Jamaica 3-0 said that Atletico Madrid asked that Lookman should be excluded from the friendlies games so he can be 100% fit for preseason while Osimhen was left out too because he might change clubs very soon.

The coach also noted that other players including (Samson) Tijani and (Abdullahi) Yusuf will not play the games against Poland and Portugal because of Visa issues.

“For now we have two games, Poland and Portugal and I have lots of problems because some players have visa issues, players like (Samson) Tijani and (Abdullahi) Yusuf,” Chelle said.

“But most importantly we miss two players because Victor Osimhen maybe he is about to change club so I prefer he stays at home because if he plays and is not at 100 percent is not good.

“For Lookman he is very tired and Atletico ask us to excuse him. We will travel with 18 players and we will see what happens after Poland and Portugal.

While reacting to the comments in a post on his Instagram page, Osimhen insisted that coach Chelle’s remarks had been misinterpreted and taken out of context.

“I just got off the phone with coach Eric Chelle regarding the comments about me in his recent interview,” Osimhen wrote on Instagram.

“Unfortunately, his words have been taken out of context and blown out of proportion. He has great respect for Galatasaray, follows most of our games, and never intended to create any controversy.

“I appreciate the conversation, the opportunity to represent my country, and I look forward to continuing to work with him.

“He is a great coach whom I respect a lot, and I kindly ask everyone to disregard the speculations surrounding this matter. Thank you for your consistent support.” He concluded.
