One of the hardest days of my career —Chrisantus Uche on injury
Super Eagles midfielder Chrisantus Uche has taken to social media to react after sustaining a nasty injury in a preseason game which will rule him out of the 2026/27 season.
The energetic player was taken off in a stretcher on Friday some minutes after he was introduced into the game between Getafe and Monaco following a nasty tackle which struck him on his knee.
Monaco defender Christian Mawissa received a straight red card for his studs-up tackle and after the game, Getafe released a statement on their official website providing an initial update on the Nigeria international’s condition stating that the injury was not serious as earlier feared.
However, subsequent examinations and an MRI scan revealed a much grimmer reality, confirming multiple tears to both the ligaments and the meniscus in his right knee.
The 23-year-old is now expected to undergo surgery, which would rule him out of action for the entire 2026/27 campaign.
While reacting to the setback in a post shared on his Instagram page on Sunday, the player described the incident as one of the most difficult moments of his football career.

“Today is one of the hardest days of my career. Following the latest medical tests, it has been confirmed that my knee injury is serious and that I will have to face a long recovery process,” Uche said.
He insisted that he was determined to stay positive throughout the healing process promising to face the period with strength, patience, and determination.
“I won’t lie: accepting that I will be away from the pitch for a while is tough. Football is my passion, my job, and what makes me happiest, and now I have to face a situation I never imagined. But challenges are also part of the journey.”
“I am going to face this period with strength, patience, and determination, working every day to get back to doing what I love most: playing football, he added.” Uche added in part.
The injury now turns out to be a setback for the all-action midfielder who was aiming to revive his career following an underwhelming loan spell at English Premier League club, Crystal Palace last season.
