Former Argentina international soccer player Lionel Messi has become the new owner of La Liga second division club CD Eldense.

Messi has become the new owner of the club after buying 100% of stakes of the side currently established in the Spanish second division.

Reports say Messi negotiated directly with the majority owner of the club, TH Soluciones Group S.A.S. (a Colombian investment group), bypassing third-party involvements.

Further reports suggests that Messi also holds business interests in Uruguayan side Deportivo LSM and Argentine club Leones de Rosario FC.

This purchase by the former Barcelona player follows his previous investment in the fifth-tier Catalan club UD Cornellà.

CD Eldense has played four games in the new season and sits 20th out of 22 teams in the standings and Messi’s investment is expected to improve the financial profile of the club.
