Lookman fires Atletico Madrid into Champions League semifinal

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman was on target for Atletico as they fought back to see off Barcelona in their Champions League quarterfinal tie on Tuesday night.

Trailing 2-0 from the first leg at the Camp Nou, Barcelona put up a fine start, pegging up 2-2 on aggregate by the 24th minute.

Lamine Yamal opened scoring in the fourth minute and Ferran Torres added a second in the 24th, but Lookman ended their dream just after the halfhour mark with a goal.

Barcelona, who ended the game with 10 men following an Eric García red card on 79 minutes, may have won the game 2-1, but it’s Atletico who advance to the semifinals.

Atletico Madrid have won all three of their Champions League knockout ties against Barcelona.

Elsewhere, Liverpool were hammered 2-0 again by Paris Saint Germain as they crash out of the Champions League.

Trailing 2-0 from the first leg in Paris, Liverpool had hopes of sealing a comeback at Anfield, but ended up conceding two more goals to lose 4-0 on aggregate.

As it stands, Atleti will face either Arsenal or Sporting CP in the semi-finals as they look to reach the final for the first time since 2016.

PSG, on the other hand, will take on the winner of the tie between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, billed to take place on Wednesday.
