Brazilian winger Antony Matheus dos Santos known mononymously as Anthony has finally broken his silence following his omission from Brazilian squad for the 2026 World Cup.

The former Man United winger who plies his trade for Spanish club Real Betis opened up about his omission from the squad in a short message which he posted on his Instagram page.

Antony in his message disclosed that he wanted to be at the World Cup but it is unfortunate that he would not be representing his country.

He stated further that he is very proud of what he did this season for Real Betis but he doesn’t think it was unfair to be omitted from the squad because Brazil has many talented players.

Antony made his debut for Brazil national team on 7 October 2021 in a World Cup qualifier against Venezuela. He came on as a substitute in the 77th minute and scored a goal in added time to establish the final score of 3–1 for Brazil.

On 7 November 2022, he was named in the squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. However, on 4 September 2023, Antony was expelled from Brazil’s squad for 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification matches against Bolivia and Peru following allegations of domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend.
