Flick vows Barca will fight for Champions League after new deal
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has revealed that he is excited to sign the one-year contract extension offered to him by the club.
Flick led Barcelona to a second consecutive La Liga title on Sunday following a 2-1 win over Real Madrid.
He has enjoyed a successful time at Camp Nou since joining the club in 2024, leading them to five domestic trophies.
Reports emerged on Sunday that the club has offered him a new one-year deal.
Flick confirmed the contract offer on Tuesday and expressed his excitement at the new deal.
He said: “I’ll let you know – sorry – the last few days I’ve had different things to do.
“Of course, I’m really happy about this (contract extension). They have given me and my team the confidence to work one or two years more, so for me it’s like that.
“I think a lot of coaches would be happy if they get a contract of three, four or five years, but in Barca’s case it’s good to limit it. I really appreciate it a lot.
“We go to 2028 and then we’ll see if everything is right, and if so, we can decide on one more year. The club has the right, and I have the right – I think it’s a good deal.”

Despite their domestic dominance, Barcelona have struggled to go pass the Champions League semi-final stage since Flick took over.
In his first season, Barcelona crashed out of the competition in the semi-final against Inter Milan, while they suffered another heartbreaking defeat to Atletico Madrid in the quarter finals this season.
Flick admitted that the club needs to do better in the Champions League.
He said: “In the last few days they showed me that I am here in the right place, and I really appreciate what they give me – all the people, to me and my team, and my family.
“For next season, it is also a big commitment for us to work harder, even harder than this season, to reach the best level with the team and to win titles.
“This is normal for Barca. I know everyone has this dream to win the Champions League. We will try again. That’s what I can say. I am grateful for the confidence they have given me to work here for more years.”
Barcelona will resume La Liga action on Wednesday against Alaves.
The Blaugrana are on course to finish the season with 100 points if they win their last three matches against Alaves, Real Betis and Valencia.
