Fabregas becomes first Spaniard to win Serie A coach award
Como coach Cesc Fabregas has become the first Spaniard to win the Italian Serie A coach of the year award following a stunning 2025-26 season with the modest club.
Fabregas guided Como to the Champions League for the first time in their history with a fourth place finish, winning 20, drawing 11 and losing seven to earn 71 points.
He received the award at the Gran Galà del Calcio AIC ceremony held at Teatro alla Scala in Milan on Wednesday.
Inter Milan were recognised as the league’s Club of the Year.
Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar was named the goalkeeper of the season.
Marco Palestra, who joined Chelsea in the summer, was named the defender of the season while playing for Cagliari.
Inter Milan Captain Lautaro Martinez was named the best striker of the season after he finished as the top scorer with 17 goals.

Como starlet Nico Paz won the best midfielder award with six goals and eight assists last season.
Fabregas also became the third non-Italian manager to win the award following the footsteps of Sweden’s Sven-Göran Eriksson and Portugal’s José Mourinho.
Eriksson became the first non-Italian winner after leading Lazio to the 1999/2000 Serie A title.
Mourinho subsequently won the award in consecutive seasons after leading Inter to domestic and European success between 2008 and 2010.
Fabregas has led Como to an impressive start in the 2026-27 season, earning four points from six games after they opened the season with a 1-1 draw against Udinese before a stunning 2-1 away win at Napoli.
Como will face the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, Leipzig, AEK Athens, Barcelona, Real Betis, Feyenoord, and Lens in the Champions League this season.
