International Marathon

Enugu is fully set to host the 2nd Enugu City International Marathon on Friday, August 29, 2026, with the state government and organizers confirming that all arrangements for a world-class event are in place.

The marathon, organized by Nilayo Sports Management with full backing from the Enugu State Government, is designed to position Enugu as the new hub for sports, tourism, and business in the South-East.

According to organizers, logistics, route certification, medical support, water stations, traffic management, and security coverage along the race course have all been finalized.

“The city is fully ready. Every agency is working in sync to ensure the safety of athletes, spectators, and visitors,” a statement from the organizing committee said.

Hotels, transport operators, and local businesses are also reporting increased bookings ahead of race week, as athletes from across Nigeria, the diaspora, and Africa continue to register.

Mrs. Yetunde Olopade, CEO of Nilayo Sports Management, said the registration numbers have exceeded expectations.

“I am really impressed with the registration turnout. Both local and international athletes and elite athletes have been trooping out to register for this Marathon and I must say I am impressed,” Mrs. Olopade stated.

She also called on young talent to take advantage of the platform:

“I still want to use this medium to call on young and talented athletes from the South-South and South-East region to go out and register as registration is still ongoing.”

Substantial cash prizes have been earmarked for top finishers in the male and female elite categories.

Kenya’s Koros Ken won the 42km race last year alongside a $15,000 grand prize.
