NPFL: Shooting Stars name Salisu Yusuf as new coach
Nigeria Premier Football League side Shooting Stars have appointed Salisu Yusuf as their new coach ahead of the 2026-27 season.
It would be recalled that the Ibadan-based club parted ways with Nurudeen Aweroro last week after he guided the team to their first continental qualification in 27 years last season.
The Oluyole Warriors announced Salisu Yusuf in a statement on their website on Friday, describing him as an experienced gaffer.
The statement read: “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Coach Salisu Yusuf as the club’s new Technical Adviser.
“The experienced tactician arrives at the Oluyole Warriors with an impressive coaching pedigree spanning over two decades. Since beginning his managerial career with Nasarawa United in 2002, Yusuf has worked with several of Nigeria’s leading clubs, including Kano Pillars, Rangers International and Enyimba, and was most recently with Coton Sport in Benin.
“The club is confident that Coach Salisu Yusuf will bring strong leadership, tactical expertise and a winning mentality to the Oluyole Warriors as we pursue our ambitions across domestic and continental competitions,” the statement concluded.

Yusuf ended his short stint with Benin Republic club Coton FC in June after joining the club in August 2025.
He led the club to a second-placed finish in the Beninese top flight last season.
He was also part of the Super Eagles coaching crew under Gernot Rohr while also serving as the Nigeria U-23 coach.
Yusuf has coached the likes of Kano Pillars, Enugu Rangers and Enyimba in the Nigeria Premier Football League in the past.
Shooting Stars fans will be hoping he can bring his wealth of experience to bear on the team as they prepare for the 2026-27 CAF Confederation Cup.
The Oluyole Warriors will face Inter Lagos in their first match of the NPFL season before taking on CS Sfaxien in the CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round.
