Chelle appoints Ozebagbe, Ortega as Olympic Eagles assistants
The head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Eric Chelle has appointed the pair of Bright Osehai Ozebagbe and Deniran Ortega as his assistants for the Nigeria Olympic U-23 male team.
The appointment of the two assistants ahead of the men’s football qualifying campaign for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles was made known in a statement issued on Tuesday by the National Sports Commission (NSC).
Signed by Kola Daniel, Special Adviser on Media to the Office of the Director General, the statement noted that the appointments represents the first step of preparations as Nigeria seeks a return to Olympic football stage.
Chelle who has been saddled with the responsibility of handing the U-23 men’s along with the job of coaching the Super Eagles has disclosed that he is happy to have both Ozebagbe and Ortega on board.

The former Mali coach described the newly appointed assistants as two of the country’s most promising gaffers who have shown that they have a lot to offer due to their experience garnered.
Ozebagbe is currently the technical adviser of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Ikorodu City FC while Ortega, a UEFA-licensed coach trained by the Scottish Football Association, also serves as an assistant coach for Nigeria’s U-20 team, the Flying Eagles.
The Olympic Eagles are scheduled to open a training camp in Abuja ahead of their qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles with their second-round qualifying fixture set for November 2026 against either Mauritania or the Democratic Republic of Congo.
