Carlos Queiroz reappointed as Black Stars coach
The Ghanaian Football Association (GFA) has reappointed Portuguese coach, Carlos Queiroz, for a another term after the expiration of his initial contract.
The GFA in a statement issued Wednesday disclosed that Queiroz was given the job again as Black Stars head coach to help with the next phase of the team’s development programme.
According to the Ghanaian Football governing body, Queiroz was reappointed with a new mandate, commencing with the upcoming international window following discussions with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with Carlos Queiroz for his appointment as Head Coach of the Black Stars for the next phase of the team’s programme.
“Queiroz’s previous mandate, which included leading Ghana at the just-concluded FIFA World Cup, concluded a few weeks ago.

“Following discussions with the GFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, it was agreed that Carlos Queiroz would embark on a new coaching mandate, commencing with the upcoming international window.
“The GFA believes Queiroz’s extensive international experience, technical expertise and knowledge of the Black Stars position him strongly to lead the team into this next chapter.
“Further details on the new mandate and the Black Stars’ upcoming programme will be announced in due course, as the GFA and Coach Queiroz turn their focus to building a successful new phase for Ghana on the international stage.”
The reappointment of the 73-year-old Portuguese manager marks a surprise return just two months after he stepped down as Ghana’s Coach following his team’s exit at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Queiroz who was initially hired by the GFA in April 2026 successfully navigated the Black Stars through the group stage and into the Round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup before stepping aside when his short-term contract expired.
