Liverpool sack Arne Slot after unimpressive season

Arne Slot

Dutch coach Arne Slot has been fired by English Premier League (EPL) club Liverpool FC following a disappointing 2025/26 season, with Spanish tactician Andoni Iraola touted as his replacement.

The underwhelming performance and failure to successfully defend their league title has forced the club to sack Slot at the end of the campaign.

Liverpool’s recent season was widely considered a major disappointment, ending in fifth-place in the Premier League and an overall record of 17 wins, 9 draws, and 12 losses.

The club in a statement shared on X on Saturday confirmed Slot’s sacking with immediate effect and also revealed that a process to appoint a successor is underway.

“Liverpool FC can confirm Arne Slot is to depart his role as head coach with immediate effect and that the process to appoint a successor is under way.

“He leaves with a Premier League title to his name and our deepest gratitude and appreciation.” The club wrote on its official X handle.

Moments after the announcement was made Slot took to social media to say goodbye to Liverpool fans.

“It’s been an amazing ride together with Liverpool, I am so grateful that we were able to win the league last season” He wrote.

Slot’s sacking has now led to talks about a replacement with former Bournemouth coach, Iraola now emerging as a likely candidate to become the next coach of Liverpool FC.
