U-20 WCQ: Malawi invites two foreign-based players ahead of Falconets clash

Malawi coach, Chombo

The coach of the Malawi national team Maggie Chombo has invited two foreign based players ahead of the second leg World Cup qualifying game against the Falconets of Nigeria.

Chombo has decided to beef up her team with the invitation of two foreign based players: Faith Chinzimu, and Rose Kabzere, ahead of the forthcoming encounter.

The Falconets will also be met with a hostile treatment as the Malawi FA has decided to open the gates, offering free entry to fans in a bid to create an intimidating atmosphere at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

Speaking ahead of the game, the Malawi coach vowed to stop the Falconets of Nigeria in the second leg of the World Cup qualifier.

Chombo affirmed that her team learnt a whole lot from the first leg encounter and they (technical team) will work on the grey areas noticed.

She further declared that there is still everything to play for in the second leg as his team will do all it can to cancel the two goal deficit and power on ahead to win the game.

“We have learnt, and we will go back and work on those areas,” Chombo said ahead of the second leg encounter.

“They have managed to score on their pitch, but we are going to do so as well in front of our supporters. Everything is possible, and we are going to do our best to win the game at home”. She added.

Recall that the Nigerian U-20 team defeated Malawi 2-0 last Saturday at the Remo Stars stadium in Ikenne. After a drab first half, the game came alive in the second half when the Falconets opened scoring through an own goal after piling pressure on the visitors.

The Nigerian female U-20 side doubled their advantage in the 58th minute through Kindness Ifeanyi who buried the ball at the back of the net after the Malawian goalkeeper spilled a dangerous cross.

The Falconets are now neck deep in preparation for the second leg encounter scheduled to take place on May 9 as they hope to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-20 World Cup which will be hosted by Poland.
