Colombia’s Ortegon wary of Falconets threat ahead WWC quarterfinal clash
The captain of the Colombian national female U-20 team Juana Ortegon has disclosed that she is wary of the threat posed by the Falconets ahead of their quarterfinal clash at the ongoing FIFA 2026 Women’s World Cup.
Ortegon who was speaking after Colombia secured a hard fought 1-0 victory over tournament hosts Poland in the Round of 16 via a late one goal said her team will fight till the end.
The Colombia U-20 skipper who said that they are happy to secure a quarterfinal ticket in the game against Poland which seemed destined for extra time, however noted that they are ready to compete and win against Nigeria.
“This team is all about fighting until the end. We always fight and do our best. We never stop trying to go forward, and in the end, we scored,” Ortegon told FIFA.

“We will play match by match. We are very happy to be in the quarter-finals, so we will think about Nigeria first, but this team will always compete to win. Our dream is to win the world title, but we’re going match by match,” added Ortegon.
The Nigerian Falconets advanced to the final eight after a dominant 3-0 victory over England in the Round of 16 with goals coming from Tosin Rafiu, Janet Akekoromowei and Mary Mamudu.
Both teams will now square up in a high-stakes knockout match which will take place at the Stadion Miejski ŁKS in the city of Łódź, Poland, with a place in the semi-finals at stake.
