‘Tis a good feeling to be back’ –Boniface says after scoring twice
Forgotten Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has stated that it is a good feeling to be back following a frustrating spell on the sidelines due to injury, which foiled his proposed move to AC Milan and a disappointing loan spell with Werder Bremen.
Boniface, who made the comments after scoring twice in Bayer Leverkusen’s emphatic 7-0 pre-season victory over fifth-tier German side SF Baumberg, said that the last twelve months have been difficult for him.
The 25-year-old striker added that he is glad to be back training with his teammates again and also scoring his first goals for Bayer Leverkusen since March 2025.
“It was a difficult year for me. It is a good feeling to be back,” Boniface said in quotes revealed by Rheinische Post.
“Of course, I’m happy that I’m training again, playing again and doing what I love again.”

When asked about when he thinks he will be fully fit to play 90 minutes for his German club, the former Union Saint-Gilloise player said that he cannot predict for now.
“I don’t know. I can’t say. For me, it is about continuing.” He added.
Boniface’s problems began when a lucrative transfer to Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr fell through in January 2025, and a proposed move to AC Milan also fell through months later.
He then suffered an injury-plagued loan spell at Werder Bremen, making only a few appearances before returning to his parent club, Leverkusen, this summer.
However, in recent weeks, Boniface has worked hard on his fitness, losing weight and undergoing individual training sessions in an effort to rediscover his best form ahead of the new season.
