Real Madrid suffer Carvajal injury blow ahead El-Clasico

Real Madrid have confirmed that captain Dani Carvajal has suffered a toe injury, and he is expected to miss the El Clasico clash against Barcelona on May 10.

The Spanish club provided the update in a statement on their website on Saturday, stating that Carvajal suffered a toe fracture on his right foot which will rule him out of action for two weeks.

The statement read: “After the tests carried out on our player Dani Carvajal by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a fracture of the distal phalanx of the fifth toe on his right foot. Pending evolution.”

Consequently, Carvajal could miss the next two weeks according to Spanish media.

He will sit out Saturday’s clash against Espanyol, and the Clasico against Barcelona at Nou Camp on May 10.

Real Madrid are currently 11 points behind Barcelona in the race for La Liga trophy after a disappointing campaign.

Carvajal has endured an injury -ravaged season, making only 14 appearances in La Liga.

He has missed a total of 16 games due to injury this season.

He is expected to lead the club at the end of the season when his contract expires.

The 34-year-old has 27 major trophies at Real Madrid including four La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey titles and a joint record of six Champions League wins, a record he shares with Paco Gento, Luka Modrić, Toni Kroos and Nacho.

He was appointed as the captain of the club at the end of last season following the exit of Luka Modric.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to keep his place in the right-back position in the next few weeks.
