Nwachukwu wins Nigeria’s seventh gold medal at Commonwealth Games
Goodness Nwachukwu produced a sensational performance to win team Nigeria’s seventh gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Wednesday.
She broke her own world record in the women’s F42-44/F61-64 discus event following a final throw of 39.66m to shatter her previous F42 world record by more than three metres to defend her title.
Funmi Oduwaiye won the silver medal with a throw of 38.52m, while her compatriot Bree Cronin secured bronze after recording a season’s best of 36.00m.

Team Nigeria’s teenage sensation Jessica Orji won the silver medal in the women’s shot put with a throw of 17.87m.
She became the first Nigerian woman to win a Commonwealth Games Shot Put medal since Vivian Chukwuemeka at Melbourne 2006.
Canadian thrower Sarah Mitton won the gold medal with a throw of 19.88m, while Jamaica’s Lloydricia Cameron settled for bronze after also throwing 17.87m but Orji edged her to the silver medal on countback.
Team Nigeria can now boast of seven gold, five silver and two bronze medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
