Madugu tenders apology for Falcons loss to S’Africa
The head coach of the Super Falcons of Nigeria, Justin Madugu has apologised to fans and other stakeholders for his team’s 2-1 loss to South Africa in a play-in game on Thursday.
The Super Falcons suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Bayana Bayana of South Africa in the African playoffs to miss out of the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Madugu who was fielding questions from newsmen after the game accepted full responsibility for his team’s loss which ultimately quashed their hopes of qualifying for the 2027 Women’s World Cup taking place in Brazil.
He stated that it was not the intention of the team to bow out the way they did as they did all they could to secure a World Cup ticket but their efforts was not good enough.
“First of all, I have to apologise to Nigerians over our inability to make it to the World Cup. It was not our intention. We came and did the best that we could, but our best was not good enough.

“We are very sorry for that, and we take full responsibility for everything that happened,” Madugu said during his interaction with the media.
The experienced tactician who led the Super Falcons to glory at the last WAFCON said that he is not afraid of being sacked as he has served the country to the best of his knowledge.
“I am not afraid of being sacked. To the glory of God, I have served my country. It was a privilege that was given to me.
“So far, I have played almost 28 games, won 19, lost four and drawn four. But this defeat came at crucial moments that people did not expect.” Madugu added.
Despite the intense backlash, Madugu’s future remains officially undecided by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) with the defeat to South Africa triggering immense anger across social media, where the hashtag #MaduguOut is now trending.
