Knee injury puts Serena’s Wimbledon doubles hopes in doubt
A niggling knee injury sustained by American tennis player Serena Williams during a 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 loss to 20-year-old Australian Maya Joint in the singles event has now raised doubts over her participation in the doubles event.
Serena who was making a return to the singles category of the sports for the first time since 2022 after entering through a wildcard tweaked her right knee during her first-round singles comeback loss against Maya Joint.
After the grueling game her agent, Jill Smoller, released a statement confirming that Williams tweaked her right knee at the end of the first set.
“She left site that night unaided and is doing everything she can to be ready for her doubles match later this week,” Smoller said.

Fears have now been raised about Serena’s participation in the forthcoming doubles event after the event organizers only listed her sister Venus Williams on the practice schedule on Wednesday.
In her last game, Serena endured a rocky start in the opening set before recovering from a break down in the second set to force a tie-break.
Joint improved in the third set to wrap up victory for her first-ever win in the tournament after losing 11 WTA Tour-level matches in a row.
Serena also created history by becoming the second oldest player to appear in the women’s singles draw at Wimbledon.
