Iheanacho targets promotion with Bursaspor after penning three-year deal
Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho is targeting a return to the Turkish Super League after penning a three-year deal with second-tier club Bursaspor despite attracting interest from Scottish Champions, Celtic FC.
The 29-year-old player who once plied his trade for Manchester City is fired up for the task ahead with his teammates as they are determined to secure promotion to the top-flight in the 2026/27 season.
“We know what we want as a team, but collectively as a team hopefully we achieve the promotion. That is our main target before the individual target of a player. My target is for us to go to the Super League,” Iheanacho told the club’s official website.
The former Leicester City hitman also stated that one of the reasons he joined Bursaspor was the club’s long-term vision and ambitious project.

He said; “Bursaspor is a big team in Turkey. I heard they won the Turkish Super League before. When I hear the project they have and how they want to go all the way to the Super League and to play in Europe as well, I said this is a big project and it’s very good for me to come and be involved and help the team.
“I asked my agent to make sure he do everything possible to make sure I come to Bursaspor. There’s a big project and I hope I’m going to be part of it and I’m going to help the team.”
The player turned down the opportunity to continue his career at Celtic after the club offered to pay him half of his salary as a condition to continue and instead joined Bursaspor which was willing to pay more.
Iheanacho made 23 appearances for Celtic across all competitions during the 2025–2026 season, recording a total of 7 goals and 1 assist.
He had limited starting minutes but proved to be a highly effective super-sub, including a memorable brace against St Mirren in the Scottish Cup final.
