Ex-Falcon Oparanozie rues Super Falcons defeat to Cameroon
Former Super Falcons star player Desire Oparanozie has described the team’s surprising quarterfinal loss to Cameroon at the ongoing 2026 WAFCON as a disappointing outcome.
Oparanozie who reacted to the outcome of the game in a post shared on her X page said that she expected the Super Falcons to eventually win the trophy and also pick an automatic to the World Cup.
She added that she is disappointed and heartbroken about the loss to Cameroon and also doubted the team’s chances of qualifying for the World Cup through the intercontinental playoffs.
“It’s a disappointing outcome, nobody saw this coming,” Oparanozie said in a video posted on X.

“honestly didn’t think we were to fall short, to be honest I wasn’t looking at us winning the trophy but the ticket to the World Cup and I don’t know our chances of going for the intercontinental playoffs, what are the chances.
“So I’m heartbroken right now, if we don’t make it to the World Cup this would be the first time the Super Falcons would not be at the women’s World Cup.”
The Falcons lost Sunday’s game to a 19th minute sublime free kick struck by Myriam Nyadjou which beat goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie in goal for the Nigerian female national team.
The Super Falcons struggled to find their way back into the game but the Indomitable Lionesses held on to seal an historic win to end their losing run against Nigeria and also picked a ticket for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
