The interim coach of the Super Falcons of Nigeria, Austin Eguavoen has issued an update on the injury sustained by captain of the team, Rasheedat Ajibade during the 2028 Olympics qualifying game against Comoros.

Ajibade suffered an ankle injury in the 23rd minute of Nigeria’s 5-0 win over Comoros in the second leg of the Olympic Games qualifiers at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.

In the 24th minute of the game, Folashade Ijamilusi took the place of the Atletico Madrid player who was visibly in pain clutching her ankle, as she left the pitch in tears.

Coach Eguavoen confirmed that Ajibade was taken straight to the hospital for an MRI scan to determine the severity of the injury with official medical updates on her recovery pending scan results.

“Ajibade, I have not heard anything. I was with the medical team and they said they are taking her to the hospital for an MRI to ascertain the degree of the injury,” Eguavoen told reporters.

“Hopefully, before we get back to the hotel we will know. As soon as we have information I’m not the one to give it, the medical team will contact the Head of Media, and then we’ll get an update on Ajibade’s injury.

“Unfortunately, we lost Ajibade early in the game. I think and I hope that the injury is very minute.”

Despite Ajibade’s early exit from the game, the Super Falcons secured a 7-0 aggregate victory over Comoros to advance to the third round of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic qualifiers, where they will face Morocco.
