Cucurella pays tribute to Spain coach De la Fuente with tattoo
Spain defender Marc Cucurella has fulfilled his promise of getting a tattoo of the team’s coach Luis de la Fuente after the 2026 World Cup triumph in North America.
The 28-year-old had said he would tattoo the coach’s face on his body if Spain lifted the World Cup before the final clash against Argentina.
Following the team’s dominant display to defeat Argentina 1-0 in the final for their second World Cup trophy, he has proven to be a man of his words.
On Tuesday, Cucurella announced on his social media account that he had kept his promise with a picture of the tattoo.
He wrote: “Promise kept,” The Tattoo is an image of De La Fuente with his hand gripped around the World Cup Trophy.
It would be recalled that De La Fuente was asked about Cucurella’s decision to immortalize him with a tattoo in the final’s post-match press conference.

He said: “But they’ve made a mistake, they’re serious people so they’ll keep to their word. I’ve already told them, ‘Did you make a mistake?’ They did, but they’ll enjoy it.
“I’m not so terribly ugly that they need to put it somewhere where nobody can see it.
“But it makes me laugh and I’m proud that they keep their promises. Above all, if you say something, you have to stick to it, so I’m happy about that too.”
Cucurella started in all of Spain’s eight games at the World Cup.
During the tournament, he also joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in a deal worth €60 million on a six-year deal.
Cucurella made 115 appearances for Chelsea, whom he joined in 2022 from Brighton and Hove Albion.
He won the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup during his four seasons at the West London side.
