Bayern end scoring run in stunning goalless draw against Schalke
Bayern Munich played out a disappointing goalless against Schalke in a 2026-27 Bundesliga clash on Saturday to end their impressive scoring run.
The defending champions failed to score for the first time in 59 competitive matches at the VELTINS-Arena in Gelsenkirchen.
Bayern Munich had scored nine goals in their first two matches of the season against Stuggart in their Bundesliga opener and Osnabruck in the German Cup but they failed to find the net.
Kompany rested Harry Kane and Michael Olise ahead of the Champions League clash against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday.
Luis Diaz missed two chances in the encounter as Schalke goalkeeper Loris Karius made a series of impressive saves to deny the visitors the maximum points.
Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany was disappointed with his team’s inability to finish take their chances.
He said: “Congratulations to Schalke, they fought really hard for the point. We had our moments and created big chances.
“When you play against such a compact and aggressive team, then you have to take your chances. We could’ve won this game, but congratulations to Schalke. Next time we have to score our goals,”

Similarly, Bayern Munich goalkeeper, Manuel Nueur blamed the team’s positioning in the first 15 minutes for the draw.
He said: “We had 15 minutes where we didn’t have optimal positioning and pace, otherwise I think we dominated the game and all stats speak for us. We weren’t efficient and didn’t take our big chances.
“Loris [Karius] deserved the man of the match, he made 3 really big saves. We don’t really need to look at the table after two games.
“We have a Champions League game next week, we want to win and have a good start. Then we have a tough away game in Elversberg. We’re taking it game by game”
Meanwhile, Schalke coach, Miron Muslić, was impressed with his team’s performance in the last encounter.
He said: We had a good plan that needed to be carried out almost to perfection, because you can’t just defend against Bayern.
“They always have solutions, plus the individual quality. We intended to defend and also to enjoy the suffering to an extent. That’s what made us good last season. Obviously you need some luck in certain moments, but we earned that today.
“There’s no greater compliment you can give the team than keeping a clean sheet against Bayern. I think they’re the best team in the world. A lot has to work out against them: mentality, approach, passion and also being able to put up resistance. Bayern don’t stop, but neither do we.”
