An honour to play for Nigeria, says Wrexham goalie Okonkwo
Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has expressed his delight at the opportunity to play for the Super Eagles ahead of the Unity Cup and the friendlies against Poland and Portugal.
The Super Eagles will defend their Unity Cup trophy in London from May 26 -30th before taking on Poland and Portugal in June.
Okonkwo switched his international allegiance to Nigeria in April after representing England at youth level.
He was born in Camden to Nigerian parents, he started his career at Arsenal but he was unable to make a senior appearance for the Gunners before going out on loan in 2023.
However, he has been a key member of the Wrexham team that was promoted to the English Championship last season.
After meeting with Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle in London last year, he agreed to play for Nigeria.

Okonkwo is expected to be part of the Super Eagles squad for the Unity Cup, and he has described it as an honour to play for Nigeria.
He said: “It’s an honour being given the opportunity to play for your country. I am so excited, I can’t wait. To finally have the opportunity is incredible.”
Okonkwo will battle it out with the likes of Stanley Nwabali, Maduka Okoye and Francis Uzoho for the Super Eagles number one spot.
He kept 10 clean sheets in 44 appearances for Wrexham in the Championship as they narrowly missed out of the playoffs spot.
Eric Chelle is expected to name the squad for the Unity Cup before the end of the week.
