Alvarez will not be playing for FC Barcelona next season –Atletico CEO Gil
Atlético Madrid CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín has declared that striker Julián Álvarez will not be playing for Barcelona next season despite an opening bid for the in-demand player from the Catalan clubside.
Gil in a statement issued on Friday, firmly rejected all exit rumors regarding Julián Álvarez. He publicly stated that the club has rejected a €100 million bid from FC Barcelona and would refuse even €150 million or €200 million, emphasizing that the forward is a cornerstone of the club’s project.
“I spoke to Laporta personally. I told him: Please, just let it go. We do not want to sell Julián Álvarez, and we are not going to sell him. Stop insisting”.
“But he keeps this situation alive because, in part, he enjoys it. He is frivolous and loves maintaining this relationship with the fans and the media, BUT he knows PERFECTLY WELL that Alvarez will NOT be playing for FC Barcelona next season”.
The club chief also stated that Alvarez has been poorly advised since the season ended about the possibility of playing for his dream club Barcelona.

He said: “Julián has been poorly advised since the season ended, and that, in a way, is what makes me believe that his performances and his attitude will remain exactly as they have always been: those of a very good player, a good person, and a true professional”
“The truth is that we know Julián. We’ve worked with him over these past two seasons, and we have absolutely no doubts about his character or his professionalism”.
“I think both the player and the fans have it very easy. Everything depends on the player’s attitude and, of course, his performances. In the end, Atlético Madrid knows exactly what it wants. It wants committed players and players who deliver on the pitch”.
“That’s why I believe every Atlético Madrid fan’s dream, mine included, is to see Julián scoring goals for Atlético Madrid and winning trophies with Atlético Madrid. And I truly believe that’s exactly what’s going to happen”.
While Álvarez has expressed a personal desire to leave and prefers a move to Camp Nou, Atlético executives have maintained that he is not for sale at any price and are unwilling to sell to a direct rival.
