Ajayi, Adeshina win bronze medals at Commonwealth Games
Team Nigeria’s impressive performance continued at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow as the duo of Kanyisola Ajayi and Temitope Adeshina won bronze medals on Tuesday.
Ajayi followed up his stunning performance in the semi-finals, where he advanced with a 9.94 seconds to the final but he fell short to win the bronze medal in the men’s 100m race.
He became the first Nigerian man to win a 100m medal at the Commonwealth Games in 20 years.

Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme powered to victory with a games record of 9.83 seconds, while Lachlan Kennedy of Australia grabbed the silver medal with a time of 9.85 seconds.
Nigerian duo of Favour Ashe and Fakorede Adekalu failed to qualify for the finals.
Ashe finished fifth in his race in 10.07 seconds, while Adekalu placed fourth in 10.06 seconds.

In the women’s high jump, Temitope Adeshina made Nigeria proud by winning the bronze medal with a stunning clearance of 1.90m.
She finished behind Australia’s Eleanor Patterson and Nicola Olyslagers, marking a remarkable improvement from her 10th-place finish on her Commonwealth Games debut four years ago.
In the women’s 100m, Miracle Ezechukwu failed to qualify for the final after she finished fourth in the semi-finals with a time of 11.23 seconds.
In boxing, Patricia Mbata exited the women’s 75kg competition after a spirited display against England’s Mary Kate Smith.
Mbata pushed her opponent all the way before losing a narrow 3-2 split decision in the quarterfinals, falling just short of a place in the semifinals.
In Swimming, Abduljabar Adama booked his place in the men’s 50m butterfly final with an impressive performance, keeping Nigeria’s hopes alive for another medal in swimming.
Team Nigeria has now won 12 medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games with six gold, four silver and two bronze.
