Abia Warriors rocked by coaching shake-up as Shorounmu replaces Amapakabo
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper and ex-national team goalkeeper trainer Ike Shorounmu has been appointed as the interim head coach of Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) side Abia Warriors following the suspension of Imama Amapakabo.
The club, in a statement issued on Wednesday, announced that Shorounmu will oversee the affairs of the team alongside other assistants at a critical point of the season as the club aims to stabilise results in the NPFL.
The statement signed by club chairman John Sam Obuh also revealed that Shorounmu will take charge of the team pending the outcome of the investigation involving Amapakabo and team coordinator Patrick Orji.
Amakapabo and Orji were suspended by the club management after what Abia Warriors described as acts of insubordination, although specific details of the incident were not made public.

“Abia Warriors have suspended Imama Amapakabo and Bethel Oji from all club activities with immediate effect over alleged acts of insubordination,” the statement read.
“Ike Shorunmu and his assistants have been directed to immediately take charge of the team’s operations until further notice.”
Shorounmu has previously worked with Abia Warriors’ technical crew in the past and is regarded by many as an experienced figure in Nigerian football circles.
