Cristiano Ronaldo with Portugal

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has declared that his teammate Cristiano Ronaldo deserves respect regardless of who likes him more or likes him less.

Fernandes who was reacting after Ronaldo sensationally walked out of the Portugal national team camp on 30 September 2026, also cautioned the public not to complicate matters by fuelling different speculations about the situation.

According to him, Portuguese citizens should not divide themselves over the matter. Fernandes also stated that people should not take sides, and that they should experience the situation as one.

He said; “Cristiano Ronaldo deserves the respect of all Portuguese people, regardless of who likes him more or likes him less.

“We are completely outside the matter. We are aware of what you are saying and what we are seeing.

“But what I think, once again, is that the country should not divide itself, that people should not take sides, and that we should experience all of this as one. We should respect and accept all sides, but at the same time, as I said, Cris is and will always be the greatest icon of our national team, our football and also world football,” Fernandes noted.

The Portuguese national team coach Jorge Jesus who once managed Ronaldo at Al-Nassr had also insisted that “there was no incident whatsoever” with the legendary striker.

Ronaldo reportedly had a fallout with the coach Jesus after he was left as an unused substitute during Portugal’s 2-1 win over Norway- making it the first time in 6,678 days that he spent an entire competition match on the bench of the national team.
