Nigeria begins Accra 2026 on positive note with two medals

Team Nigeria made a promising start at the ongoing Accra 2026 athletics championships after winning two medals on the opening day of the event in Ghana.

The Nigerian contingent delivered strong performances across their respective events to secure the country’s first podium finishes of the tournament, boosting hope’s of a successful outing in Accra.

Nigeria secured two medal in the field events staged at the University of Ghana Sports Complex located in the capital of Accra to the delight of teeming fans at the venue.

Nigeria’s first medals were won in the women’s Discus event when Divine Oladipo, who was making her first international appearance for the country, clinched silver in the event.

Obiageri Amaechi also secured a place on the podium, winning a bronze medal to complete a successful outing for Team Nigeria on Day 1.

Nigeria is also expected to rake in more medals on Day 2 with Tobi Amusan set to compete in the finals of the 100m women’s hurdles while Favour Ashe will also compete in the 100m men’s final.
