NFF suspends referee for dubious penalty call in Rangers vs Brendel Insurance
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Refereeing Development Committee has suspended referee Yakubu Adamu indefinitely from all football-related activities.
The referee awarded a contentious penalty to Enugu Rangers in their 2-1 win over Bendel Insurance in Enugu on Sunday.
The victory was enough to keep the hosts on top of the Nigeria Premier Football League table with one game to go and one point ahead of second-placed Rivers United.
In a video trending online, The Enugu Rangers fell in the penalty area without any challenge from the Bendel Insurance defender.
The referee quickly pointed to the spot to the dismay of the Bendel Insurance coaching crew and supporters.
Consequently, The The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Refereeing Development Committee announced on Tuesday that the referee, Yakubu Adamu has been suspended indefinitely.

The Nigeria Premier Football League confirmed the suspension on their X handle on Tuesday.
NPFL wrote: “Referee Yakubu Adamu has been suspended indefinitely with immediate effect by the NFF Refereeing Development Committee from all league & football matters.
“Mr Adamu is sanctioned for his decision to award a penalty during the Rangers vs Bendel Insurance match which is not in line with the provisions of the Law of the Game.
“The referee’s action did not only result in a goal but also affected the outcome of the match & brought the game into disrepute.”
Enugu Rangers and Rivers United will battle for the NPFL title on the last day of the season with one point separating both sides.
Rangers will travel to Lagos to face Ikorodu City while Rivers United will take on Katsina United at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt on Sunday.
