Man City leapfrog Arsenal to top Premier League

Erling Haaland scores for Man City

Manchester City have now become the leaders of the Premier League after they defeated Burnley 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.

The day began with Arsenal at the top of the league with three points ahead of second-placed City, but with win over Burnley, that has changed.

Erling Haaland scored the only goal of the game after five minutes, to condemn Burnley to a defeat that relegates them back to the Championship.

Pep Guardiola’s men had not been in the number one spot since the opening week of the campaign, but an 11-game unbeaten streak has led to them to the top with five games left.

With their 70 points against Arsenal’s 70 as it stands, City possess the experience of getting over the line during a tight title race.

But they also know that victory in all their remaining five games might still not be enough – if Arsenal manage to do the same and outscore them.

In another Premier League game played on Wednesday night, Leeds United fought back to hold Bournemouth 2-2.
