Inter Lagos appoint Olutayo as interim boss after Giwa’s exit

Inter Lagos boss Olutayo

Inter Lagos FC has appointed Olusanjo Olutayo as interim head coach of the team following the departure of former head coach, Shakira Giwa who stepped down from his role.

Giwa tendered his resignation as head coach of Inter Lagos following a poor start to the 2026/27 Nigeria Professional Football League season with club sitting at the bottom of the table.

Inter Lagos has now acted swiftly to fill the vacuum left by Giwa by appointing Olutayo who once spent time with Sporting Lagos and G12 FC as the interim head coach of the club

While speaking to the club’s media following his unveiling, Olutayo said that the club should expect a team that is going to fight for every point this season to ensure they beat the drop.

“To be honest, what they can expect from me is a team that is going to fight. A team that is going to put all their efforts towards ensuring that as far as performance and results, we are going to fight and do all we can to ensure that we win games,” Olutayo stated.

“You are NPFL players for a reason, and we have to show that we belong here. So if we come together as a team and we hold each other accountable and form a strong bond, I promise you, we are going to have a strong and successful season.”

With just 2 points from 8 games, the position of the club was worsened by a recent 3-point and 3-goal deduction penalty for breaching league Frameworks during a Matchday 7 fixture.

Olutayo is expected to be on the bench this Sunday, October 18, 2026, when Inter Lagos hosts Nasarawa United at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos State.
