Eagles to face Tanzania, Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau in 2027 AFCONQ

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will battle it out with Guinea-Bissau, Tanzania, and Madagascar in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The draws were conducted at the Egyptian Football Association headquarters in Cairo on Tuesday with Nigeria in Group L.

The competition will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from 19 June to 17 July 2027.

The qualifying series will be played across three FIFA international windows between September 2026 and March 2027.

Matchdays one and two are scheduled to take place from September 21 to October 6, 2026, while matchdays three and four will be played between November 9 and 17, 2026.

The final round of qualification matches is slated for March 22 to 30, 2027.

The top two teams in ‌each ⁠group qualify for the finals in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from June 19-July 17 next year, except for Groups D, H and ​L where ​the highest-placed ⁠side besides the three co-hosts will go to the 24-team finals.

The Super Eagles crashed out of the 2025 Nations Cup in the semi-final following a 4-2 penalty shootout defeat to Morocco.

Nigeria defeated Egypt 1-0 to win the third place match to finish as the bronze medal winners in the tournament.

This the first edition of the tournament to be hosted by three countries, and the first in five decades to be organised in the CECAFA region, since it was hosted by Ethiopia in 1976.
