Brighton beat Chelsea, Newcastle in race to sign Zadok Yohanna

English Premier League (EPL) club Brighton have succeeded in securing the services of heavily sought-after Nigerian teen sensation Zadok Yohanna from Swedish club AIK Stockholm.

Reports had earlier suggested that both Newcastle and Chelsea have had bids of £21.6 million accepted by AIK but the player’s camp had already settled for the clear career progression plan tabled by Brighton.

AIK in a statement issued on Friday disclosed that it is evaluating offers tabled by several club’s for the services of the skillful winger and also disclosed that one of the bids is higher than £20 million.

“AIK Fotboll has initiated negotiations regarding the sale of player Zadok Yohanna,” the statement read.

“The current bid indicates a net profit effect higher than £20m. If and when an agreement has been reached, this will be communicated.”

The Seagulls have now secured the player’s signature after shelling out the sum of £21.5m on the talented winger who also attracted interest from other established clubs like Real Madrid, Rennes, RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund.

“Ignore the noise, it has always been Brighton. I have arrived! I am Zadok Yohanna,” the player said in a video announcing his arrival on the club’s official X handle (formerly Twitter) on Saturday evening.

Yohanna who has quickly become one of the most highly sought-after teenage talents in European football, scored five times and provided a further four assists in 12 matches for AIK so far this season
