Arsenal break 14-year Anfield jinx to move top of Premier League
Reigning English Premier League (EPL) champions Arsenal broke a 14-year Anfield jinx after securing a hard fought 1-0 win over Liverpool tutored by Spanish coach Andoni Iraola.
The North London club secured all three points away in a tensely contested encounter to move three points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.
The Gunners which went into Sunday’s EPL game in second place started the match on the front foot and their endeavours paid off in the 15th minute when German striker Kai Havertz scored via an assist provided by Declan Rice to silence the home crowd.
The dimension of the game changed thereafter when Liverpool took the game to their opponents with Argentina midfielder Alex McAllister almost getting an equaliser in the first half of the match.

Liverpool felt aggrieved in the first 45 minutes when a shirt-pull by Jurriën Timber on Alexander Isak inside the penalty area was overlooked by VAR.
The second half of the game also panned out like the first, with Arsenal putting pressure on Liverpool as they searched for a second goal with Belgium winger Kristos Tzolis coming close to scoring the second goal for the rampaging visitors.
Liverpool clawed their way back into the game and despite dominating possession (57%) and unleashing 18 total shots, they failed to register a single shot on target, as Arsenal held their own to secure all three points in the match after regulation time.
The hard earned victory over Liverpool at Anfield moved Arsenal top of the Premier League table with a three-point lead over Manchester City, while Liverpool trails 9 points off the pace.
