VOLLEYBALL: Rwanda defeat Nigeria at African champs, secure play-off spot
The Rwanda volleyball team tutored by coach Federic Guerin defeated Nigeria at the ongoing 2026 African Volleyball Nations Championship taking place in Tunisia.
Coached by Japanese national, Ryan Masajedi, the Nigerian side which has already lost out of qualifying for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games lost 3-1 Rwanda in a classification game on Wednesday.
The Rwandan team captained by Wicklif Dusenge stormed into an early lead in the first set of the game beating Nigeria by 25-23 points.

The second set was no different as the Rwandan team imposed themselves in the game with a 25-20 point win against their Nigerian counterparts.
The Nigerian team rallied back in the third set of the game capitalising on mistakes made by their opponents to win the set by 18-25 points.
However, the Nigerian volleyball team faltered in the fourth set losing to the East African side by 25-19 points to bow out of the competition unceremoniously.
By defeating their Nigerian counterparts in the 5th to 9th classification game, the Rwandan volleyball team has secured a place in the fifth-place playoff.
